Install and tuning of Emanage Ultimate

Below is a log file of the emanage trying to hold the revs at 3000rpm . I have been fidling with the settings for the pass 2 week to get it to hold the RPM without success. I am limited by the toyota ECu which does not like misfires for more than 2 revolutions.

[IGT CUT] Limit A=30 Cut A=1 Limit B=900 Cut B=2

To avoid facking up the ECU by missing ignition events we are going to split the igt signal which comes from the ECU. One signal will keep the stock ignitor happy. Thus the tachometer, fuel injectors and pump happy. The coil will then be replaced by a tach adapter.

The ECU will think its still firing the standard coil but really and truly it will be firing two high energy coils.

The other signal will go to the emanage which is configured to generate two pulses 180 degrees out of phase. The MSD needs to be driven from an ignitor so these signal drive two new ignitors. The signal that would have gone to the negative of the coil from the ignitor can then drive the MSD DIS-2

The configuration is shown below

The engine only starts when one of the oem wires is sending spark to one of the cylinders. An automotive scope meter is showing that the ultimate is not generating the 2 triggers during start up but only when the engine has actually started. facking Japanese Clowns.

The toyota ignitor has five wires. These are Battery Positive,IGT,IGF,Tachometer and Coil Negative. The trigger to the ignitor goes from low to high. An MSD must be triggered from low to high.

The above configuration will allows the RPM to be held at a set RPM during launch.Retard can also Dialled in atthis RPM to send hot gases to the turbine and Allow it to make boost during launch.

I have beend able to get the launch control to work. This was achieved by stting the RPM higher. At higher RPM the time between missing ignition events is smaller so not enough time is available to cut the injecotrs and fuel pump.

The wasted spark configuration is having problem during cranking. No triggers are generated during cranking. The emanage has to be configure "1 in 1 out" to get the engine to fire on cylinder 1/4. Once it has fired it is then configured to "1 in 2 out" .The car then idles smoothly.

The current configuration uses a tercel 95+ dual channel igniter. The igniter output drives the msd. The automotive scope meter shows trigger pulse dropping to 1.25ms at high RPM.I am not sure if the toyota igniter is constant duty or constant charge. The msd requires a constant charge of 2 to 2.5ms.

The MSD is breaking down above 5000rpm under boost which is I believe is due to a weak spark.I have spoken to Greddy and the starting issue relates to the configuration "1 in 2 out" and diodes in the emanage. The break down issue relates to the msd and charge time.

The MSD Unit has been removed. The surface mount diodes are small and are not easy to remove.

A new version of The ulitmate has been released and now accurately displays the accellerator opening rate.

The emanage ultimate can add or taking away fuel directly but changing the injector pulse width. On a vehicle with a boost cut defender. You are forced to keep the signal going to the MAp sensor below the cut voltage. Please remember that the ignition timing is stuck at this value.

Engines with grouped injectors will require the ultimate injecotr adapter two otherwise the car will run rich.

Greddy needs to smooth the ignition timing and pressures in the log files .I have seen changes as much as 5 degrees in a few milliseconds..

A bad oxygen sensor can be very misleading. It shows itself as missing around 2500 to 3000 rpm under very low load. You fuel consumption will also increase considerably.

This is the configuartion to allow the ultimate to log from the innovative wide band meter.
